Home staging can make a big difference to your selling strategy. It’s very simple, as we explain here, and you can get plenty of inspiration from show homes.
However, what you don’t want to do is end up with a property that’s all stage and no home at all. Although neutral floors and walls often attract buyers, an entire personality transplant can make it very difficult for a property to stand out and generate viewings. In this blog, we’re going to help you avoid the mistake of creating a bland property.
So here are 10 top DOs and DON’Ts:
1. DON’T paint every wall Magnolia. Choose a sophisticated colour palette with different but complementary shades for each room.
2. DO clear away anything that you wouldn’t see in a show home. Toys, pet bowls, laundry, coats and shoes all fall into this category.
3. DON’T have carpet in your bathroom. The 21st-century buyer won’t be impressed!
4. DO replace any carpet in high traffic areas, especially if you have pets and children.
5. DON’T choose patterned carpets. This is one area where boring is best.
6. DO shop for accessories from a well-known brand like Next or John Lewis. This demonstrates quality and good taste.
7. DON’T leave your collection of teapots or fluffy toys on display. It’s time to pack them away, ready for your move.
8. DO be careful with strong colours and prints which can inadvertently distract the buyer. Limit them to small items like cushions, rugs or throws.
9. DON’T forget the bathroom. Fill it with new toiletries and towels, and hide away any Pantene, Colgate or half-used soap.
10. DO visit your local show homes for more ideas and browse Pinterest which is an excellent source of inspiration.
