When you’re selling your home, you need to be motivated. We mean really motivated. Because it’s no piece of cake selling a property, and there are lots of hoops to jump through along the way.
What’s your motivation for selling?
From preparing your home for each viewing; to dealing with disappointing feedback and low offers; to putting your life on hold for months – it can seem ages until you finally get the keys to your new home.
To meet these challenges head-on, you need to be really determined to sell your house.
This usually means two things:
1. Pain. To sell your home, there must be a really strong reason why your house, which you once chose, is no longer right. Maybe you have four children and only two bedrooms? Maybe the garden has become too much of a worry? Maybe you’re in the wrong location for quality schools? Whatever the reason, your pain needs to be tangible and specific. Remind yourself “why” you’re moving whenever the going gets tough.
2. Desire. Where and why are you moving? Is it to be closer to your family? Or to release some capital? Perhaps you’ve had an amazing job offer that you can’t refuse? Or maybe you’re looking for more space – more bedrooms, an ensuite bathroom, a large garden or somewhere with a double garage? Your desired outcome has to be achievable and exciting. Keep your eye on this prize when progress seems slow.
Once you’ve identified these critical motivational factors, you’ll find the whole moving process much easier. After all, your current home is someone else’s dream home. And your next dream home is out there waiting for you.
